Students normally select a field that their elders or senior students suggest them without giving a thought to whether the field that they have chosen will suit them or not and once they have taken up that course, they realize that the field of study that they have chosen does not suit them but by then it is already too late and they have to cope with the discipline that they have chosen. Thus, it is very important that they do not blindly follow what is being told to them and instead find more about the fields of study and the prospects it has with respect to getting a job in the later years.

Factors affecting choice of field of study

The field of study that you choose to complete your engineering in, must be based on the following factors.

Your interest in the area of study
The scope of getting a job in the future
The scope of continuing your education in the form of a Post Graduation in India or abroad
The type of job that you wish to do once you have completed your course

These factors are of paramount importance and thus you need to take great care of them while you are choosing the course for your engineering.

Some fields of study, in engineering are male dominated and the main reason behind this is that the jobs that you procure after the completion of the degree are physically challenging and hence and opted for, by a handful of the female student who appear for the various engineering exams after they have completed their higher secondary exams.

There are various entrance examinations for engineering in the country and the toughest among them is the IIT, which is one of the most reputed technical institutions in the world. Apart from it there are many other entrance exams as well and once you have cleared any one of these examinations then you are granted admission on the basis of your score in the examination. It goes unsaid that a high score in the examination will not only get you the college of your choice, but also the branch that you desire to study.

You must do some research on the branch of study that you intend to pursue and you need to know about the subjects that you will be studying in case you are pursuing a branch. This is critical as there have been cases where students have opted for a particular field of study, without really knowing the subjects that they would have to study and have suffered greatly, later as the subjects were their weak points.

TIP: It is always a good idea to have at least 2 or 3 choices when it comes to the field of study that you are case you are not able to get the branch of study that you want, for one reason or the other.

Scope of the branch of study that you choose

This is another factor that I mentioned that affects your choice of study and that is the scope of getting a job after the graduation has been completed. The best way to know about this is by asking your senior students or surfing the internet about the job prospects that this branch of study will bring along with it.

You need to be in sync with the job market as well and also find about the companies that come for campus interviews and the rate of student absorption in the college that you intend to take admission in. The companies that come must be related to your branch of study and only then will you get a chance to pick up a job fresh out of college.

These are the main factors that would and should affect your decision of picking a particular branch of study, if you wish do your graduation in engineering. And last but not the least, you need not give in to parental or peer pressure and choose a branch that does not really interest you, as this will cause profound problems for you in the future and you will not be satisfied with the job that you get even though it may be a good one.

Primary objective of doing this project Remote Parameter Monitoring using MAX232 Serial Communication(GSM based) is to develop an Embedded system, which will monitor all the devices with commands from a Remote device (our mobile) through GSM communication.It is implemented 8051 based AT89S52 developed board interfaced with GSM modem, Temperature sensor, Gas sensor and LCD for displaying the data.

In industries there will be sensors, like temperature sensor, gas sensor etc and various parameters in the industrial production. There will be various actuators to control various parameters in industrial process control. This sensor gives the warning when temperature increases or decreases and also senses the gas, which is essential for remote industrial maintenance. The automation system can is used for industrial applications. It will sense temperature and gas and transmit to remote station via GSM channel.

Block Diagram:

In this proposed work we are going to develop remote environment variable monitoring and controlling system, using GSM Communication media. The controlling operations are performed by the controller which will be present at work centre. In this project we are using AT89S52 microcontroller for monitoring the equipments in the industries. GSM modem is used to communicate and respond to the remote commands and those commands are sent to the micro controller via RS 232 communication means MAX232 chip.

The main objective in building this project PC to PC Communication using Radio Frequency is to develop an embedded system, which uses to transfer the data from source PC to destination PC. It is implemented 8051 based AT89S52 based developed board interfaced with RF Transmitter, Receiver and MAX232 to connect PC.

Our present project discusses transmitting data by RF communication. In this project we are going to develop an embedded system, which will connect to a PC via MAX232 and a receiver also will connect to another PC. We will send the data from source PC to destination PC. Radio frequency is used to communicate and respond to the remote commands and those commands are sent to the micro controller via RS232 Communication means MAX232 chip.

The RF module which we are going to use for this project is 350/433MHz. This module is connected to the dedicated serial communication pins of the microcontroller which are RxD and TxD. The transmitting board is connected to data source PC and the receiver is connected to data reception or destination PC. Whatever the data we are sending from the source PC will be received on the destination PC hyper terminal. The system uses a compact circuitry build around flash version of AT89S52 microcontroller with a non volatile memory.

Software used: Embedded ‘C’, RIDE to write code, ISP to burn the chip.
Hardware used: AT89S52 based our own developed board, Power Supply, RF Module, LCD, MAX232, Encoder and decoder.
Main Advantages: Low cost, automated operation, Low Power consumption.

Monitoring of Attendance with Fingerprint Biometric Solution is to develop an embedded system to store the attendance of the authorized persons using finger print recognition. This project is implemented on an AT89S52 board interfaced with fingerprint scanner, EEPROM for storing the data and LCD for displaying the data.

The purpose of implementing this project is to provide security maintain a track of people’s attendance using finger print. Principle or concerned person of college will store all the persons finger prints in the reader which is having the capability to store 1000 finger prints. The persons who will come and put their fingers on to the reader that particular time will be stored in the EEPROM which is soldered to our board and also increases the attendance day by day. Finally it displays the total attendance of the person when required.

Whenever the person/student enters into the office/school he puts his finger on to the reader where we kept our embedded board attached with the reader. Only the valid persons attendance stored. The system can work standalone and can also be integrated to a computer using RS-232 port. The complete code for the Monitoring of Attendance with Fingerprint Biometric Solution embedded system is going to be developed using embedded ‘C’-Language.

This Common Entrance examination will be held for diploma holders on May 24. For the candidates who are seeking to enter into Engineering from Polytechnique. Relating to ECET 2012 Notification, this would be published on 17 Feb 2012 along with Syllabus, Exam date etc said by JNTUK vice-chancellor G Tulasi Ram Das.
This year Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University- Kakinada will take incharge in conducting ECET-2012. Wireless Smoke detection system using Radio Frequency

We came up with new B.Tech Mini Project abstract "Wireless Smoke detection system using Radio Frequency". It is an embedded system design which detects the evolution of smoke using Radio Frequency (RF). Implementation of this mini project was on AT89S52 based developed board which was interfaced with Smoke sensor, Buzzer, RF wireless transmitter and RF wireless receiver.

In this project Wireless Smoke detection system using Radio Frequency, we are going to develop an embedded system, which will detect the smoke. This system comprises of two boards one act as the transmitter board and other as the receiver board. The transmitter board is interfaced with smoke sensor and RF Transmitter through RF encoder. The receiver board is interfaced with RF Receiver through RF decoder and a buzzer. At the transmitter section whenever the smoke is detected the message is transmitter to the receiver through the RF transmitter. When the receiver receives the message automatically the buzzer is switched on indicating that the smoke is detected.

The system has a compact circuitry built around Flash version of AT89S52 microcontroller. This version of circuitry was a non-volatile memory capable of retaining the password data for over 10 years.

Power Distribution Line Fault Analyzer based on Data logger Microcontroller

The main objective of project is to find out the line breaks through out distribution line using Micro Controller & PC . This Project can be implemented with or without help of PC, in place of PC we can put LCD display.

For the future expansion, here we are implementing the project with MC on PC we have. This Project mainly consists of different Sensors located at different electric poles of distribution line. So all the sensors are feeded to the sensor reading logic. The Output of the Sensor reading logic attached to the Micro Controller . The Micro Controller reads each and every sensor & gives the data to the display or PC.

In addition to this, we kept one alarm to indicate the line breaks. The program written in Micro Controller (89C51), to transfer the data from sensors to PC . The communication protocol written in between PC & Micro Controller for reading Sensors data. The fault finding data can be stored in the PC for the future evaluation. The automatic control System also can be implemented with the help of this, whenever the Problem occurred in the distribution line. The Control System enters in to the Power Off state when Problem occurred in the distribution line. It is very useful project to avoid accidents in distribution line due to line breaks.

Officials are inviting DSC Online Applications 2012 through proforma which are available from website apdsc.cgg.gov.in during the dates 16.02.2012 to 17.03.2012 for the recruitment to the posts of School Assistants, Secondary Grade Teachers, Language Pandits, Physical Education Teachers in Government, Mandal Parishad Schools, Zilla Parishad and Schools under the control of the Tribal Welfare Department and Municipalities in the AP State through District Selection Committee.

In view of this, DSC 2012 District wise vacancies list also published by the higher authorities. Please note that, before applying for the concerned post go through the information bulletin and read the details carefully. If you are eligible for DSC Recruitment 2012, then proceed to make payment. This Information Bulletin was available from website apdsc.cgg.gov.in and www.dseap.gov.in.

All DSC 2012 Eligible candidates has to pay fee of Rs.250 which is for Application Processing charges and has to make this payment through APONLINE or eSeva Centers between 16 Feb 2012 and 16 March 2012. As we all know that Government of Andhra Pradesh has published dsc notification 2012 today by minister Mr.Parthasarathy. Along with this notification, DSC 2012 District wise vacancies list too released and the same published on the website. This District wise vacancies were categorized in to 4 categories namely School Assistants, Language Pandits, PET's and Secondary Grade Teachers (SGT). There was in total of 23 districts listed in the vacancies list.

DC Motor Speed Control using PWM Inverter Technique

The project reveals the digital closed loop control system for speed and temperature control of DC motor using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) inverting technique for speed control and closed loop negative feedback technique for temperature control.

The project basically consists of micro controller MCS51 series 89C52 and motor driver, thermal sensor, comparator, key pad,16X2 dot matrix LCD display and rotation feedback sensor (optical encoder). The program is written in micro controller to take the input values from the user, then rotates the motor by placing 50% duty cycle pulse on the motor. The motor is rotated at X RPM speed, can be detected by using feedback sensor and micro controller. If the speed is above the specified speed then the micro controller continuously reduces the duty cycle till the speed comes to a predetermined level. If the detected speed is less than the predetermined speed then the micro controller continuously increases the duty cycle till the determined level. The micro controller keeps on tracking the determined speed by varying duty cycle in a closed loop control system.

Simultaneously, the project traces for the temperature of DC motor with the help of thermal sensor and comparator. If the temperature is greater than the pre determined level, then the motor automatically stops and gives a long beep alarm and the same thing is displayed on the LCD display. It starts the motor again after tracing the temperature and finding it in the desired level.
