Will Outlook.com become a Gmail killer?

Microsoft has managed to destroy quite a few other companies with its entrance into the market. Hotmail is one such company. Well, they have come resurfaced, under a different name this time. It has been christened Outlook.com and there are features that are sure to send shivers down the spines of competitors. There are app integrations, that have been made and this is what sets Outlook.com apart from the rest. As it is the shiny new toy, people are wondering will Outlook.com become a Gmail killer? Read on to find out for yourself.

Social networking sites linked to Microsoft outlook Email
The integration of the social networking sites to Outlook.com does not seem to be a very good idea in my view and that is because Outlook is sure to become your official mail and any such integration does not make sense to me.

Also, this integration has something very perilous about it and that is, if the Outlook account is broken into, then there will be a direct effect on all the other accounts that are linked to it, in this case, the accounts of the social networking sites. Thus, the linking off all the social network sites to Outlook.com can do more harm than good for the users.

The Facebook Chat option along with Outlook.com is a massive distraction
There has been the Facebook chat integration that has been made to the Outlook.com and even though they are publicizing it as a star attraction, the opposite is true. The Facebook chat is the softest point of Facebook and the functioning of it is just so random that people do not really prefer using it. Bringing in this feature along with Outlook email is not something that will affect people in any manner as most of them do not even use the feature.

The interface of New Outlook is not very intriguing
The interface of Outlook.com is simple when you look at it, but getting used to it is not so easy, like how you got used to the Gmail in one use itself. The entire format of the site can be really intimidating and the basic options such as “Send” “Reply” etc are nowhere to be seen in the main frame when you are typing out the letter. This is rather confounding to the users as they have no idea how to send the emails that they have typed out.

Also, there are certain updates that your web browser needs to have if you have to use this Microsoft's new email feature. This is muddling as there is clearly no relation between both the things. There are many features of Outlook.com that cannot be used in older web browser and thus, having an updated one is imperative.

The tab called “Quick Views”
There is a new tab that has been inserted in the web outlook email and that is something that you are sure to like in the first go. It is a simple tab that lets you view all the attachments, mails etc. from this tab itself. You need not go to the Inbox and then run a search through the same. Also, if you want to download any of the pictures and the other files that are present in this tab, you can do so, from there itself. It is a huge time saver.

There is also, the option of editing online stuff and if you make use of this option, the file that you want to edit will be uploaded to Sky Drive and there you can make all the changes that you want to have in your file. This is the plus point that Outlook has over Gmail. But, if you are already using the Gmail docs feature then there are very glib chances that you will like to shift to Outlook and make it your main mailing system.

When you keep in mind the main features that Outlook that to offer, then you surely have made out the answer to the question “Will Outlook.com become a Gmail killer?” is no. The features that Gmail presently offering are clearly unbeatable and there needs to be something much more solid that Outlook.com needs to produce if they are planning to compete with Gmail.
