BE is a highly reputed course, not just in India but all across the globe and the demand for this engineering course has escalated in the past few years. There job prospects after the completion of this course are exceptionally good and in case you are looking forward to a PG after completion of the degree then, that is even better.

After you have completed your Higher Secondary and are all set to go in for engineering, there are many things related to this that will boggle your mind regarding the field of study that you have chosen. As you know there are many fields available but not everyone knows about all the fields that are present and thus they settle for the ones that may not really be their field of interest and thus they will not do as well as expected. Students normally select a field that their elders or senior students suggest them without giving a thought to whether the field that they have chosen will suit them or not and once they have taken up that course, they realize that the field of study that they have chosen does not suit them but by then it is already too late and they have to cope with the discipline that they have chosen. Thus, it is very important that they do not blindly follow what is being told to them and instead find more about the fields of study and the prospects it has with respect to getting a job in the later years.

The field of study that you choose to complete your engineering in, must be based on the following factors.

1. Your interest in the area of study
2. The scope of getting a job in the future
3. The scope of continuing your education in the form of a Post Graduation in India or abroad
4. The type of job that you wish to do once you have completed your course

These factors are of paramount importance and thus you need to take great care of them while you are choosing the course for your engineering.

Some fields of study, in engineering are male dominated and the main reason behind this is that the jobs that you procure after the completion of the degree are physically challenging and hence and opted for, by a handful of the female student who appear for the various engineering exams after they have completed their higher secondary exams.

There are various entrance examinations for engineering in the country and the toughest among them is the IIT, which is one of the most reputed technical institutions in the world. Apart from it there are many other entrance exams as well and once you have cleared any one of these examinations then you are granted admission on the basis of your score in the examination. It goes unsaid that a high score in the examination will not only get you the college of your choice, but also the branch that you desire to study.

You must do some research on the branch of study that you intend to pursue and you need to know about the subjects that you will be studying in case you are pursuing a branch. This is critical as there have been cases where students have opted for a particular field of study, without really knowing the subjects that they would have to study and have suffered greatly, later as the subjects were their weak points.

TIP: It is always a good idea to have at least 2 or 3 choices when it comes to the field of study that you are case you are not able to get the branch of study that you want, for one reason or the other.

This is another factor that I mentioned that affects your choice of study and that is the scope of getting a job after the graduation has been completed. The best way to know about this is by asking your senior students or surfing the internet about the job prospects that this branch of study will bring along with it.

You need to be in sync with the job market as well and also find about the companies that come for campus interviews and the rate of student absorption in the college that you intend to take admission in. The companies that come must be related to your branch of study and only then will you get a chance to pick up a job fresh out of college.

These are the main factors that would and should affect your decision of picking a particular branch of study, if you wish do your graduation in engineering. And last but not the least, you need not give in to parental or peer pressure and choose a branch that does not really interest you, as this will cause profound problems for you in the future and you will not be satisfied with the job that you get even though it may be a good one.
